Pre-Prep is an exciting, challenging time: girls have grown in confidence through their Early Years' experiences and are now ready to spread their wings in a more formal learning environment.
Whilst still recognising the importance of EYFS, Pre-Prep's focus is joined-up handwriting, reading and maths; ensuring that every girl can achieve her full potential and build on it, as she moves up through the school. From Reception onwards, subjects such as IT, Science and French are all taught by specialists, giving girls a gentle introduction to Charlotte House's wide subject-based curriculum.
It's not all hard work however - Pre-Prep girls enjoy plenty of fun, laughter and excitement in this bright, lively environment. Gym, dance and PE are integral to the timetable, along with Art, Craft and Music.
Pre-Prep girls enjoy educational visits to local farms, the nearby Roald Dahl Museum, Mountfitchet Castle and London's Transport Museum. The wide choice of after-school activities includes ballet, tennis, gym, and the much loved Christmas Pudding Club.
Music and drama are actively encouraged at the school, with each year group presenting an assembly for the whole school and their parents each term. The annual Pre-Prep production and the Summer term's Junior School Concert gives every girl the opportunity to perform regularly in front of friends, family and the school. By the age of 11, the girls have become very competent and confident performers.
“Pupils’ personal development is excellent. The girls have a thorough understanding of right and wrong with clear beliefs in how they should treat others. They are confident and have high self-esteem.”
“Lessons are carefully planned to provide a variety of activities that maintain pupils’ interest, encourage good behaviour and develop reasoning and independent learning.”
“Teachers know the pupils well and plan effectively for different needs.” (ISI Inspection, July 2011)
