Nursery and Reception were very excited for their second outing of the week. They all boarded the minibus and headed off to Rickmansworth library.

They started off by listening to a poem titled ‘Today I Read a Bus Stop’ which talks all about the whole world being a book as there are so many things around us to read.

The librarians then asked  if they knew what a library was and what people use it for. They learnt about how to become a member of the library and how they are all able to register for a library card for free. The girls thought this was very exciting. The girls were impressed to find out that they can borrow up to 30 library books at a time.

They then discussed the different types of book and had a look at some different types too. The main two categories are fiction (stories) and non-fiction (information) books. The librarians showed them early reader books, chapter books, information books and seek and find books.

The librarians then read them a story titled ‘Never Take a Bear to School’ by Mark Sperring.

The girls then had the opportunity to look round the library and look at some books of their own choice. They were also able to colour in a picture of the bear from the ‘Never Take a Bear To School’ story.

They finished off by listening to another story; ‘Monkey and Me’ by Emily Gravett.
