Mathematics at Charlotte House
At Charlotte House, we aim to transform maths from a classroom subject into a valuable tool for curiosity and lifelong confidence. Our goal is for every girl to leave us as a resilient, logical thinker who views challenges as opportunities.
Our Approach: Learning for Mastery
We primarily follow the White Rose curriculum. This “mastery” approach ensures girls don’t just memorize rules but develop a deep understanding of how numbers work.
- Pre-Prep school years (Nursery-Form II): Taught by class teachers to build a nurturing foundation.
- Prep school years (Forms III–VI): Taught by specialist maths teachers in small groups to provide expert, tailored teaching.
What Your Daughter Will Gain:
- Fluent Skills: Speed and accuracy in mental and written arithmetic.
- Problem Solving: The ability to explain how they reached an answer and apply logic to real-world scenarios.
- Confidence: A “can-do” attitude, whether working independently or in a team.
Supporting Every Learner
We recognize that every girl’s journey is unique. We stretch our high achievers through complex reasoning tasks and provide targeted, small-group support for those who need a helping hand.
Beyond the Classroom
- Digital Tools: From Form III, girls use MyMaths and Mathsframe to reinforce their skills at home.
- Exam Preparation: Form V and VI benefit from weekly revision classes and the use of BOFA 11+to ensure they are calm, confident and prepared for secondary school entry exams.
- Competitive Fun: From national competitions like the Primary Maths Challenge to our annual interactive STEM Day, we provide high-energy environments for girls to test their skills against their peers.
At Charlotte House, we don’t just teach girls to do maths; we empower them to really think like mathematicians.
