Admissions

Girls may become part of Charlotte House Prep School at any point from Nursery at age 3 upwards. We welcome applicants at any stage during the academic year subject to availability of spaces, and successful completion of the admissions process.

We know what a huge decision choosing a school for your daughter is so we will do everything we can to help you find the right school. If you feel we may be the right setting for your daughter please come and visit the school. You can do this by either attending one of our Open Mornings or you can have a private appointment, this can be arranged by contacting the registrar, Mrs Gillam, on 01923 772101 or via email. You will have a tour of the school during which you will meet our wonderful pupils and inspirational teachers. Then our Head, Miss Woodcock, will be happy to talk to you about the excellent education we offer and answer any queries you may have.

The next step is to register your daughter.  One we have received the registration form we will arrange for her to come in for an assessment. The format of this varies according to her age but we always try to make this occasion as enjoyable and ‘stress free’ as we can! During the assessment we look at how your daughter would cope with the levels her peers here are working at, social skills and if they would flourish with our busy hands-on curriculum.  From Form III upwards the assessment does involve a Maths and Literacy Test.

In Early Years, parents are invited to bring their daughter in for a visit during which the Early Years’ staff will observe the child within the Early Years setting and assess their suitability for our busy hands-on curriculum. An offer will be made if it is felt that the child would thrive and flourish at CHPS but please be aware we are often over-subscribed for our Nursery and Reception classes. A familiarisation session follows acceptance of the offer so your daughter can become familiar with her new school.

Getting Ready For School

Admissions for 2024 are open.

3 and 4+ Entry

Children are invited to take part in an assessment session about two terms before they wish to start in the Early Years at Charlotte House. Your daughter will take part in a play-based assessment session, looking at social skills, speaking and listening and readiness to learn in a school setting. Typically sessions are run in small groups.  If your daughter’s current setting has a notice period that means you need an earlier assessment session do let us know so we can arrange an earlier assessment.

“Best start in life for your daughter. Mine thrived and I put it down to the family environment, wonderful teachers and all the extra curricular care and activities. Wouldn’t hesitate to shout it from the rooftops. Best school ever!”
